The goal of our libraries is to provide a warm, inviting place for students to enjoy as they develop a love of reading and learning. We strive to integrate the school’s mission and philosophy into our programs and offerings, and to fully support our curriculum and IBPYP units of inquiry.
Our media specialists create and support school-wide reading programs, teach information literacy and research skills, and attempt to expose students to a variety of literature.
Among the programs and events managed from the media centers are Read Across America, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, Six Flags Read to Succeed, the Scholastic Book Fair, the Love Books program, summer reading lists, and the 25 Book Campaign.
Circulation policy:
Students in grades K—4 may check out one book at a time for a two-week period. Students in grades 5 and 6 may check out two books at a time. Reference materials and materials which have been put on reserve for research purposes may not be checked out, but are available for use in the library. Overdue fines are not assessed but children are not allowed to check out a new book until the previously checked-out book is returned. Students are charged at the end of the year for lost or damaged materials.

Daily independent reading is encouraged at ICS. Students and adults enjoy the pleasure of getting lost in a great book! |
