Welcome.
The International Community School (ICS), a charter school located in DeKalb County, Georgia, was strategically designed to bring together refugee, immigrant and native-born children in an academically challenging and nurturing environment.
We serve some 417 students in grades K—6 and are in our seventh year as a school. Learn more about our award-winning school by clicking here.

The 2008-2009 School Year is Underway!
Welcome new parents and friends of our school. You will want to join our parent listserv right away to keep up with all activities as school starts. Go to our related links page and look for Join the ICS Parent Listserv.
Members of the ICS community are renown for having some delectable international potluck dinners! Our first All School Potluck begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 on the Avondale campus. Volunteer help is needed, contact asakoakai@gmail.com. Please bring a large dish to share, and please bring a blanket or tarpaulin to sit on outside.
ICS was featured on a segment of National Public Radio in Atlanta in August. A link to the story is coming.
Here is the first sentence in a current series of articles in the Christian Science Monitor about our school: “In our immigrant nation, perhaps the most American experience of all is to begin a new life here against long odds. Public education is often the bridge to that new life, and Atlanta's International Community School is trying to build a stronger one.” This article, and more stories about ICS, will unfold this year as reporter Mary Wiltenburg volunteers at our school, and writes about her experiences and observations.
